apples rule, oranges drool...

so lets say i'm an apple enthusiast. i just love eating apples and everything about them, sliced apples, apple pie, apple sauce, apple juice, apple on the cob, candied apples, apple flavored lube, etc. because i like apples, would it sound stupid if i were to say that oranges suck because they are difficult to eat? you know, the skin is inedible, seeds are a bitch to remove, you get orange gunk in your fingernails when trying to peel them.

a little silly right?

okay now lets say i'm a ukulele enthusiast. does that make guitars "icky"? you know, too many strings, too big, steel strings are hurty on my delicate string cheese fingers, etc. i've seen it here and there in ukulele forums but i just find it ridiculous when people go all anti-guitar when they pick up the uke. is that really necessary? they are different instruments and both have their good and bad points. the mutual bad points being they are both douchebag magnets. see case in point.

so anyway, where is the love for our 6 stringed cousin? they are fun to play too, aren't they? why is it that a uker who picks up a guitar is seen as "going to the dark side"?

i'm going to go strum my baritone zither now and pout. pout out loud!

Back in the early 90's I used to program in AppleScript. Great stuff until Windows for Workgroups came out. How do you like them apples?

*Strums skin flute.

Guitars are the stronger douchebag magnets! Ukeses are for specialists and Hobbitses. From now on you may also call me Hamfast Bracegirdle! (see "Hobbit Name Generator").

Well what about Grumpy, that dude will play anything with strings on it. Zither, Harpsichord, Dulcimer, Autoharp, Skin Lute...does that makes him more douchie? Or just douchie in several languages?

booze sez "well what about Grumpy...?"

well grumpy's all G&S.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that part.

"G&S"? Gilbert and Sullivan?

I think it's because many guitarist look down on the ukulele and since there's many more guitarists than ukists, it appears to be all of them. Ukers respond by saying, "Oh, yeah?" and send the h-bacon back to them. Oops sorry to get all serious on yas.

What the opposite of hate bacon? Love sausage?

@UKI - Opposite of hate bacon: Should be something vegan! Like "love tofu", "love potato"...

Love Sausage! hahahahahahahahha

The guitar is a tool of the devil. Just like Bill Gates.

Did you hear about Windows 7? It's supposed to be pretty good. Like a bouzouki aka skin harp tuned in fifths, but better for your musical education.

Yes - I am quite Gilbert and Sullivan.

I also plan to learn the BillGates-a-Tron. It's like a Keytar, but it runs Vista.

Interesting topic. It also came up on the skin-lute boards recently. You know my position - if it makes music, play it. Unless it's a digeredoo - that's just wrong.

You don't need to define yourself by what you play. I'll be a "uke guy" forever because that's what I prefer to play. It just jumps into my hand first - every time. That said, if I had limitless time, resources, and a wife who wouldn't throw my noisy ass out I'd be playing cello, fiddle, drums of all sorts, piano, harmonica, bass, etc...

Loveing the uke doesn't take away from the others. Besides, I like to make songs up and play with sound - sometimes you just need a different tool to do the job.

I pick on guitarists for one simple reason: they can play guitar better than me.

As with most bullying, a lot of it probably comes from insecurities. I like to make mine into a cute joke like "I have 4 fingers, not 6" or "Fuck you- yr all good n shit"
